Why Custom Mugs Work as Wedding Favours
Most wedding favours get left on the table or buried in a bag and forgotten. Custom mugs don't. They travel home. They go into the kitchen cupboard. They get used the next morning and the morning after that, and every time they do, they carry a small piece of your wedding day with them.
That staying power is what makes them worth the effort. This is the guide to getting it right — what to put on them, how to order for a large guest list, and how to make sure everything arrives in time.
What to Put on a Wedding Favour Mug
Keep it focused. The most common mistake is trying to fit too much — full names, date, venue, a quote, a pattern — and ending up with something that looks cluttered and small on a curved surface. Pick one or two elements and give them room to breathe.
Options that work well:
- Names and date only: Clean, classic, timeless. A well-spaced design with your names and the wedding date is all you need. It'll still be recognisable in 20 years.
- A great photo: Your engagement photo, a shot from the day, something that captures who you both are. Full-colour sublimation printing means the image wraps across the mug beautifully.
- Guest name mugs: Each guest gets a mug with their own name on it. More to manage, but genuinely memorable — and doubles as a place card if you display them at tables.
- A meaningful quote or phrase: Something from your ceremony, a lyric, or a phrase that means something to your group. Works best when it's specific to you rather than generically romantic.
Ordering for 80+ Guests — What You Need to Know
Larger orders are manageable with the right lead time and a clear design. Here's how to approach it:
- Confirm your final guest count first. Order to confirmed attendance, plus a 10% buffer for breakage in transit and last-minute changes. You'll want a few extras for your own keepsakes too.
- One design for everyone, or variations? A single design across the whole guest list is easiest to manage. If you want to do personalised name mugs, you'll need to send through a list of names — we handle the rest.
- File preparation: If you're using a photo, we need a high-resolution version — at least 2400 x 2400 pixels for a full-wrap print, or 1500 x 1500 pixels minimum for a one-side print. Phone photos from the last few years are almost always fine.
Timeline — How Far in Advance to Order
For a wedding-scale favour order, we recommend allowing:
- 4 weeks minimum for orders over 50 units
- 3 weeks for orders of 20–50 units
- 2 weeks for smaller orders under 20 units
These timelines cover design proofing, your approval, printing, and shipping to you with time to spare before the event. If you're cutting it close, contact us first — we'll tell you honestly what's achievable. See how our process works for the full picture.
Shipping and Receiving Large Orders
All mugs are packed individually to minimise breakage in transit. For large orders, we recommend delivery to a home address (or a venue with someone to receive it) rather than a P.O. box. Allow a couple of days buffer between delivery and the wedding — you'll want time to inspect everything and set up without any last-minute scramble.
If anything arrives damaged, contact us. We document breakage rates and back our products — this is a rare outcome but one we take seriously.
Presentation and Packaging
How you present the mugs matters almost as much as the mugs themselves. A few approaches that work well:
- Simple kraft paper wrap: A sheet of kraft paper, a ribbon in your wedding colour, done. Elegant, inexpensive, suits the tone of a personalised mug.
- Display at the table setting: If you've done name mugs, use them as place cards. Each guest finds their seat by finding their mug. A small logistics win that guests remember.
- Gift table display: Mugs lined up on a gift table look great as a display, especially with consistent wrapping. Guests choose one as they leave.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I mix different designs in one order? Yes — as long as each design meets the minimum quantity per design. Contact us for current minimums.
What if the mug chip after the wedding? Our mugs are dishwasher safe. The sublimation print is baked into the coating and won't peel or fade with normal use.
Can I see a proof before the full run is printed? Yes, always. We send a digital proof for your approval before printing a single mug. You can request adjustments before you confirm.
